1980: the twins the tri fin distracted us from.

These twins with their deep vees off the tail and simple neutral fins, had hold, drive, flow and freedom. Some surfers in their 40′s and 50′s today, reflect on these designs with memories of possibly their best surfing ever. Designed for normal waves, not just as a beach break toy like modern twins, their lines were all about grip and direction in order to compete with the far more dominant single of the era. Inherently looser this combo of massive grip off the bottom with crazy freedom off the top led to some of the most incredible surfing of the last 4 decades.
